DUKSAN AETHERCT Co., Ltd. (CEO Wee Ho Sun and Lee Su-hoon), a Korean manufacturer specializing in ultra-large containers, will launch a Type 4 hydrogen container and an ultra-capacity hydrogen transportation vehicle next year that not only boasts ultra-light weight using carbon fiber and plastic, but also has an expanded hydrogen storage capacity, to target the global hydrogen market.
DUKSAN AETHERCT set up a booth at the global hydrogen industry exhibition 'H2 MEET 2024' to be held at KINTEX in Ilsan from September 25th to 27th, and unveiled a Type 4 hydrogen container to attract the attention of visitors.
DUKSAN AETHERCT, which has been producing ultra-jumbo gas tube containers since 1992, is the only company in Korea that has secured the core technology for manufacturing seamless, ultra-large, high-pressure hydrogen storage trailers and produces Type 1 and Type 4 cylinders/trailers for transportation and storage.
Hydrogen transportation and storage containers are classified according to the material, composition, and strength of the liner, which is a fuel tank that stores hydrogen gas compressed under high pressure.
There are two types: Type 1, which uses metal inside and outside the container, and Type 4, which uses carbon fiber on the outside and high-density plastic on the inside.
Type 4 containers, which are lightweight and sturdy high-strength plastic cylinders wrapped in carbon fiber, can store a large amount of hydrogen fuel at a higher pressure than Type 1.
In addition, as advanced countries in transportation abroad have strengthened the weight regulation of trailers for the reasons of road damage prevention and driving safety, the Type 4 market is growing further.
The hydrogen tube trailer is a vehicle that can supply high-pressure and large amount of hydrogen to the customer, and is an essential element for the establishment of a hydrogen distribution system in the era of hydrogen economy.
Currently, the hydrogen tube trailer used is a vehicle equipped with a Type 1 with a capacity of 200 atmospheres and a capacity of 340 kg, and there is a limit to the capacity of hydrogen that can be transported at a time.
In order to revitalize the hydrogen economy, the price of hydrogen supply must be low.
Therefore, in order to expand the hydrogen infrastructure, it is necessary to have a transportation technology that can increase the one-time transportation volume and reduce the total weight.
DUKSAN AETHERCT's Type 4 tube trailer can transport 1 ton of hydrogen at once, which is about 3 times more than the existing Type 1 tube trailer, which can greatly reduce transportation costs.
At the end of next year, DUKSAN AETHERCT will also launch a 450 bar, 1.1 ton (1,100 kg) tube skid with reduced container size and increased pressure so that domestic tube trailers can run in urban areas.
DUKSAN AETHERCT's tube skid is the first and largest in Korea, and it is expected to further reduce hydrogen transportation costs and greatly contribute to the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure as the hydrogen supply area expands.
At the same time, the company is also actively working on ultra-high pressure and diversification of containers.
Currently, DUKSAN AETHERCT completed certification for 1.5~2kg vehicle fuel containers last year and is currently mass-producing them for European passenger cars and vans, and plans to expand the market to buses and freight vehicles.
One hydrogen bus is equipped with 5~6 Type 4 containers, and DUKSAN AETHERCT completed the certification of hydrogen containers for buses last month and aims to mass-produce them next year.
